Reiki- a Japanese word meaning Universal (rei) life force energy (ki) . It is this vital life force energy that flows through all living things, which can be activated to increase well-being.

Reiki is a simple, non-intrusive, gentle and yet powerful touch therapy. The client remains fully clothed and lying down through the process.

The therapist gently places her hands in various positions on the client's body. Each position is
held for a few minutes, allowing the client's body to take as much Reiki as is needed. The whole body is treated and the Reiki energy works to enable the body to release blocked energy,
tension and stress, thereby restoring balance to the body, mind and emotions.

Reiki is a very powerful
and important part of
Nikki's work. On the left here is a representation of the widely known symbol for reiki- 'rei' (universal) and 'ki' (sometimes referred to as 'chi'-) meaning life force energy.
Reiki has its origins in the late nineteenth century with the teachings and meditations of Dr. Mikao Usui. Much has been written on the progression of Reiki to its present day form- please check the useful links section for more information.

What should the client expect?
A Reiki treatment can take between one and two hours. The client is asked to lie on a couch (clothed) and can be covered with a blanket. Nikki will place her hands in various set positions on the clients body for a few minutes in each position, allowing the body to take the Reiki energy. It is possible that some unusual warmth may be felt or that limbs may 'twitch'- it is also likely that the client may become so relaxed that they actually fall asleep! The treatment takes place in a safe, gentle environment with possibly some relaxation music for additional support.

Karuna Reiki

Developed by William Rand, the Karuna system of Reiki is felt by many to be more powerful than Usui Reiki. Karuna is a Sanskrit word which broadly translates as 'compassionate action,' but has a more fundamental meaning in Hindu, Buddhism and Zen. Where through enlightenment all beings are percieved as one, then to help the healing process of one is to help the healing process of all. Therefore Karuna is the motivating quality of all enlightened beings who are working to end suffering on earth.

Students report that Karuna Reiki energy is more focused and works on all energy bodies at the same time- the energy surrounding rather than flowing through them and the client. Working with Karuna Reiki energy is also a process through which there is an increased spiritual guidance and connection.

Nikki trained with William Rand at Glastonbury.
