Hopi
ear candles are tubes of cotton that are combined with honey extracts, beeswax,
sage and camomile. The tube is placed gently in the ear whilst the client
is lying on their side. The heat serves to gently massage the ear drum and
this has the immediate effect of regulating the pressure system and stimulating
the local lymph glands, at the same time softening and extracting the ear
wax. This very pleasant and relaxing treatment can be of help in the following
conditions: headaches, sinusitis, rhinitis, stress symptoms, tinitus (ringing
in the ears) and irritations in the ear.

The
candles work on a chimney principle, creating a gentle vacuum and drawing
any impurities to the surface where they can be carefully removed. Head
and ear pressure is equalised.Wax flow is gently stimulated and some impurities
disappear as vapour. Whilst most of this is carried away through the candle
some residue remains and is removed with the candle itself.
|
Some
people are concerned that ash or other debris from the candle can
lodge in the ear. This is impossible with a correctly placed candle
as the vacuum is creating movement out of the candle and away from
the ear.
Nikki's treatments also include background relaxation music to enhance
the experience. So what else does the treatment involve? The client
is asked to lie down with the head placed on a pillow for support.
The candle is gently inserted into the ear with a slight twisting
motion to ensure comfort and a proper seal. The candle is then lit
and held vertically to maintain even burning. The client will hear
mild crackling and spitting sounds and may experience some slight
changes in pressure in the ear. Once the candle has burnt to the
correct length it is withdrawn and extinguished in water. A gentle
massage around the ear follows after which the process is repeated
on the other side.
After
both ears have been done the client then turns onto their back and
a gentle massage of the sinus areas, jaw, eustachian tube and ears
completes the treatment.

The
Hopi are Pueblo Indians who combine their significant medicinal
knowledge with deep spirituality, and it is through this source
that the use of ear candles is developing in Western cultures
today. Ear candles have been used successfully for centuries by
ancient cultures as a natural therapy.
